Michelson 20MM Sponsors the OE Global Conference

For a second year, the Michelson 20MM Foundation is pleased to sponsor the Open Education Global Conference. Open Education Global is led by the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) and Educación Abierta en Latinoamérica (OELATAM). Over the past decade, OE Global has connected member organizations worldwide, including educational institutions, to build partnerships, provide professional development, and create a community of engaged open education leaders.

“Supporting a global conference from an organization that has had such a strong positive impact on our local community just makes sense. We look forward to continuing to work alongside OE Global to make sure open educational resources are accessible across colleges and universities.” —Phillip Kim, Michelson 20MM CEO

The International Nature of the Open Movement

Hosted in the six official languages of the United Nations, this online conference focuses on the five UNESCO OER Recommendations: capacity building, policy, access, sustainability, and international cooperation. The recommendations were adopted unanimously by UNESCO to further the creation of quality open educational resources while facilitating international cooperation across the field.

Taking place from September 27th to October 1st, each day of the event focuses on different aspects of each of the UNESCO recommendations with presentations, discussions, interactive activities, and social gatherings. Some of the sections focus on research and best practices, while others provide opportunities to apply open concepts with hands-on activities. Whether participants are spending time learning about implementing open textbooks across continents or taking part in the Translation Hack-a-thon, OE Global’s offerings underscore the truly international nature of the open movement.

From its sponsorship of the Cal OER Conference to its work supporting the California Zero Textbook Cost degree pathways, Michelson 20MM has seen firsthand the commitment CCCOER and OE Global has made to students, practitioners, and the open community as a whole. “Supporting a global conference from an organization that has had such a strong positive impact on our local community just makes sense,” said Phillip Kim, CEO of the Michelson 20MM Foundation. “We look forward to continuing to work alongside OE Global to make sure open educational resources are accessible across colleges and universities.”
